A more useful export to HTML

My need was to be able to take meeting notes and such using FreeMind, but also to distribute the notes in a format easily accessible to others. Additionally, it should be possible for others to edit the text further.

It was also important that I was able to control the formatting of the text output, and that the whole text output was contained in a single file.

The solution: Conversion from the FreeMind .mm file format to HTML using XSLT

The next problem: You can initiate conversion using XSLT from within FreeMind, but it is very cumbersome when you have to do it often.

The extended solution: See go.freemindexport for an extension to Internet Explorer (Windows only)

In summary, this tool makes is possible to export to HTML in very few steps:

  1. In FreeMind
    1. Save your mindmap (Ctrl+S)
    2. Export to HTML (Ctrl+E)
  2. In Internet Explorer
    1. Right-click the HTML document created by FreeMind in the export, and select the menu item FreeMindExport
    2. Change settings if required (settings can be saved from session to session)
